Christmas Eve 2009

We spent Christmas Eve at Ry's sister's house with her family and Ry's parents. We enjoyed a yummy dinner and fun time with family!

Here are the boys and cousins are spreading out snacks for Santa's reindeer!

Puppet Theater

Last Fall I participated in a preschool co-op with some other families from church. We had a big box left over from something (I can't remember what anymore...) and I wanted to use it to make a puppet theater to use one week at preschool. Once I started working the boys decided they wanted to take the project over and here is their puppet theater!

Zoolights 2009

Last year, in early December, we experienced a cold spell with low temperatures in the teens. During the day when the sun was out it wasn't so bad, but temperatures dropped quickly at night.

I wanted to go to Zoolights at the Oregon Zoo, but was not looking forward to fighting the crowds or the rain that I remembered from last time so, I got the bright idea of going to Zoolights while it was so cold. There was no rain in the forecast and I figured that being early in the season most families would decide to wait until it warmed up to brave the Zoolights. I dressed everyone in layers and packed a thermos of hot chocolate and off we went.

I was right, the zoo was almost empty, but we sure were COLD as you can probably tell by the looks on the boys' faces!

Halloween 2009 Open House and Trick-or-treating

On Halloween last year we had an open house for our neighbors and family. We decorated the house and had corndogs and other snacks. After the open house we took our kids trick-or-treating with some cousins and had a great time!

Halloween 2009

So, these are last year's Halloween costumes! I made T's scarecrow costume. He wanted to be a scarecrow with a pumpkin head - I think he saw it on Scooby Doo. It probably also goes without saying, that I made Ri's costume. He wanted to be the Snow Ghost from Scooby Doo. I scoured the Internet for white clothing (sweats, anything) in Ri's size, for the body of the costume. It was impossible at any price and I am not enough of a seamstress to make pants and a shirt so we ended up with toilet paper and white gargage bags taped together with white duct tape. I made the horns out of a head band and femo. The end result was not my proudest moment, but Ri loved it and that's what matters!

The last crazy year!

The last year has been eventful. I have not blogged since last Christmas time, but now I am pregnant (yay!) and feeling awful (boo!) and I would like to do something productive that involves sitting down and catching up on blogging seems like the perfect thing!

Our last year has been crazy, Ry has switched jobs and on the side we opened up a dental practice of our own that is open one day per week.

In the spring our ward split and I went from being first councilor in the young women's presidency to first councilor in the primary presidency. This has been my first experience serving in primary (i never did more than substitute teach before!) and so that has kept me busy. Ry continues to serve as Secretary in the Elder's Quorum presidency

Starting in January, and culminating in June, Ry and I were dance teachers for our youth dance festival. About a year ago, when we were called into a member of the stake presidency's office and asked if we would be willing to do this, we laughed - "are you sure you want us?" we asked. At BYU we had signed up to take a couples dance class together. Ry audited the class and I needed the credit to fulfill a requirement so I was the only one getting a grade. At each test we were marked down for first, me not following Ry's lead because I was trying to stay on rhythm, and on the second test, when I followed Ry's lead, for not being on rhythm myself. I couldn't win! Not that either of us were that great! Nevertheless, after getting assurances that they did indeed want us to help teach the 14 and 15 year olds a swing dance we agreed.

Dance Festival involved us learning the dance so we could then teach it, along with 2 other couples (it took us a lot longer than our youth to pick it up, luckily one of the other wives was a dance teacher!), near weekly practices (many of which we had to bring our two little boys to - I almost lost my mind - as a matter a fact, we almost lost T once, but finally found him, in the parking lot, in our van). In June, we spent a weekend with the youth as they did their performances and in the end they pulled off a wonderful, spiritual show.

To catch up on the blog, I am just going to go through pics that I have and post and maybe add some explanation as I go along. I am not the best about remembering to bring a camera to events and I'm not much of a scrapbooker, but hopefully this blog will help preserve some family memories.
