Charlotte is a lot like Portland in that it usually only snows about once a year and when it does everything except for the hospital shuts down. So on Tuesday, January 20th, while poor Ryan had to go to work, the rest of us got to stay home, play, drink hot chocolate and watch the Presidential Inauguration on TV.
It took about 30 minutes for us to get bundled up to go outside and when we did we found that the temperature was still in the 20s and the snow was too powdery to make snowballs or snowmen. After about 10 minutes the boys asked to come back inside. In the afternoon when it was a little warmer we went back out and played for a good 40 minutes. Riley made 3 snow angels and we tried to sweep the snow into a snow fort using a broom (It was really that dry, more like dry sand than snow). When we got inside Teddy declared that he didn't like snow anymore. Once he had finished drinking his hot chocolate he spoke more favorably about snow.
To my surprise (and delight) the boys, especially Riley, loved watching the inauguration and the festivities leading up to it. He kept asking me to tell him more about who everyone on the screen was. They stayed interested for about 40 minutes until President Obama started his address, then they went off and played really nicely together while I listened.
The boys are getting better and better about playing together. They call each other "My Best Friend Teddy" and "My Best Friend Riley." Of course, they fight sometimes, but they actually get along pretty well at the moment. For a few nights at the beginning of January they talked Ryan and I into letting them sleep in the same bed. Much to our astonishment, they actually slept pretty well the first couple of nights. After we got back from our trip to Oregon we had to put an end to it though because they were falling asleep progressively later and later every night.
